PHOENIX, AZ - Liturgy expert Sr. Anthony Poerio, IBVM, whose leadership in the diocesan Office of Worship spanned nearly three decades, died May 19th. She was 75. Peter Jordan photographed Sister Poerio presenting the Sacred Chrism Oil during Holy Week at Saint Mary’s Basilica in downtown Phoenix.

Crowning the Loreto Sister’s many achievements was planning the Mass celebrated by Blessed John Paul II at Arizona State University’s Sun Devil Stadium in 1987 and meeting the blessed Mother Teresa in 1989.

“She was small in stature, but very large in her faith,” said Jerome Doris, parish manager of St. Mary’s Basilica. “She was a strong woman, a great communicator and teacher and a wonderful liturgist.”

SINISE SIZZLES IN SOUTH BEACH

The Lieutenant Dan Band lit up Lowes South Beach Miami last week. Peter Jordan was honored to photograph such an amazing performer. The Lieutenant Dan Band is dedicated to performing shows that honor our defenders, veterans, first responders, their families, and those in need. This summer the Gary Sinise Foundation and The Lieutenant Dan Band will partner with Building for America’s Bravest and Tunnel to Towers Foundation that constructs customized Smart Homes for our nation’s most severely wounded servicemen. They will perform benefit concerts in ten states to raise funding, awareness and community support for the construction of twelve Smart Homes – each for a severely wounded hero.

MIRACLE ON THE HUDSON

Scottsdale, Arizona – Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, captivated Scottsdale during the recent JLL ESC conference held at the beautiful Hyatt at Gainey Ranch Resort. Peter Jordan was honored to photograph the American hero.

Captain Sully gave a second-by-second account of his decision making process on January 15, 2009 that “ditched” US Airways flight 1549 on the Hudson River after a bird strike with all 155 passengers safely evacuating the plane. It is described by NTSB board member Kitty Higgins as “the most successful water landing in aviation history.”

The captain was asked by the NTSB if looking back on that faithful day, would he do anything differently. Sully’s response was no. His training and pilot’s instinct kicked in and he would do it all the same. Sullenberger said: “One way of looking at this might be that for 42 years, I’ve been making small, regular deposits in this bank of experience, education and training. And on January 15 the balance was sufficient so that I could make a very large withdrawal. “When his copilot, Jeff Skiles, was asked the same question, Skiles said he would have ditched the plane in July!

PHOENIX, AZ - Peter Jordan worked with Margaret Thatcher when she toured the Arizona Biltmore in the not too distant past. The Prime Minister was very kind, gracious and accommodating to this “Okie” photographer with our request for photos. Mrs. Thatcher was the longest-serving British Prime Minister of the 20th century and is the only woman to have held the office. The world felt the loss of the “Iron Lady” on April 8, 2013. And we thought President Reagan was conservative!

HERE,THE HORN BLOWS!

The sweet sound of music can be heard around the Vally of the sun, thanks to Jesse McGuire. Long time Phoenix resident and trumpet player, McGuire is known for his rendition of the National Anthem which he has played for Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Ronald Reagan. Jesse also paid a moving patriotic tribute to those who were lost on September 11, 2001, by performing Amazing Grace at Sun Devil Stadium for the Arizona Cardinals, for which he received the Game Ball.
McGuire has been the featured performer at numerous sporting events including the Daytona 500, NBA Finals,Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and his most notable performances were at the 2001 World Series, for which, he received a World Series Championship Ring from the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks are currently on a four game winning streak!
McGuire is also the 2010 recipient of the Copper Sword Award, presented by The Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame Society.

PHOENICIAN ROCKED BY COUNTRY

The Band Perry rocked the walls of the Phoenician in Scottsdale recently and Peter Jordan Photography captured all of the action. Sibling Trio let by Kimberly Perry belted out hits like “If I Die Young”, “Post Card from Paris”, and “Better Dig Two” along side brothers Neil Perry and Reid Perry.
This trio of Grammy winners for best new artist, knew how to get the ballroom clapping, dancing and singing along, a great way to close out a great trip to sunny Scottsdale Arizona.

Peter Jordan photographed Billy Beane and Paul DePodesta, the two key players in the movie “Moneyball” staring Brad Pitt, as they captivated the audience at the Phoenician resort with their baseball tales and principles of sabermetrics.

Scottsdale, Arizona – The US Army recruiting station here in Scottsdale, represented by Staff Sergeants Pfaff, White and Howard (L-R) recently worked with Southwest Conference Planners’ corporate client and Peter Jordan Photography at the beautiful JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort to assemble CARE boxes that will be sent to our brave men and women protecting our freedom and liberties in Afghanistan and bases around the globe. Over 500 attendees took time to write personal letters to soldiers and record videos expressing their appreciation and fill boxes with goodies from home.
